More work in the studio

I spent yesterday dusting and vacuuming and otherwise cleaning up the studio.  I had to take numerous back breaks - my old body is not used to such hard work!

Anyway:  I left off with a few things that needed to be organized and a lot of things that needed to be put away.

This was the pool table that is my collect-all spot:

So today I needed to actually start the organizing:

Probably doesn't look all that great, but it is really organized!  The far end has quilts waiting to be quilted.  I added two or three to the pile.  The close end is my current applique project and the blocks that are already finished.  The table is a convenient place for all these things, so that's where they will stay.

Then, I worked on the cubbies: Yesterday's mess:

I spent a couple hours finding things I forgot or didn't even know I had!

The top row contains applique projects to finish, piecing projects to finish and some to start and finish, and a few projects that will be done on the longarm.

The next two rows are fabric that I will be pulling from to make quilts for the homeless again.  I have a plan!

Bottom row is leftover batting, some muslin - mostly stuff to use on the longarm to practice stitches or test tension.

Now that I have my thread organized, and some of my projects organized to finish, I'm going to start working on them.  One day a week I want to work on the longarm, one day a week will be for prepping applique, and one day a week will be for piecing. So, at least 3 days a week I'll be in the studio working on something.  Lately it was such a mess and I'd only go down there to do what absolutely had to be done for my ongoing applique project.  So, now I can take the first project from the cubby and start working on either prepping it for applique, or start piecing another quilt.  I already have a project loaded on the longarm for the next time I get to work on it.  And I got the right color thread delivered today to start on it!

Still have a lot of things to do down there -- the quilt books are falling out of the shelves, so next time I'll probably start getting them organized.

Now that winter is unofficially here, I plan to start cleaning out closets in the rest of the house too.  And I'll be starting with the mess I left in the spare room of all the quilts -- way past time to sort thru and give away to my kids and friends!

Until next time....blessings.
