New Years Eve Quilting

I spent the afternoon making Depression Blocks -- I had 4 done previously and made 10 more today. That leaves 16 to do 15 minutes at a time during the next few weeks. I'm in no hurry-- just enjoying the process.

Our NYE celebration tonight will consist of Beef Kabobs for dinner and watching the Bears beat the Packers on TV tonight! I've been going through quilt magazines in the evenings, tearing out the patterns/info I want to keep and tossing the rest. It's a good job to do while watching tv, especially football. I have some from the past two nights that are waiting to be filed into sleeves and added to a notebook. It's taken me years to come up with a good system for these and I think this is it -- so much easier to page through a notebook or two or three than the hundreds of magazines. And, I'm trying to be very selective -- I don't want to save something I know I will never make. Some I save will just be a jumping off point of an idea, but the rest will be real possibilities. I have some printouts from the 'net that I have saved also. I'm being very selective there too.

Happy New Year everyone. Be safe.

Gratitudes:
A phone call from a friend.
A nice relaxing quilty day.
Quietly seeing the year out, looking forward to the new one coming in.

Hi Joanne

Thanks for letting me know what a 'leaders and enders' quilt is. I use a leader and ender but have used the same two pieces of fabric over and over. What a great idea to make use of that little bit of sewing time. The depression blicks look great.

Oops that was mean't to be 'blocks' not blicks'

Joanne,
What a good idea for old magazines-pulling out the patterns you know you'll use. What kind of notebook or binder are you using? I've been mulling over doing this, but I'm such a packrat, I must have at least 20 boxes of magazines.

Your depression blocks look beautiful! I've had this pattern saved on my computer for about a year...maybe this will be the year where I do something with it! Happy new year!

Happy New Year, Joanne. I pop in on occasion just to see what you're up to. Beautiful quilts - love Tulip Farm (it's on my list of "someday" projects)

great idea with magazines. i have done that in the past but they are not very organized. I think the plastic sleeve is a super idea. where do you get those??

Love the magazine idea -- sounds like a trip to the office supply store may be in order *s*

I've been working on doing the same thing with my magazines. However, I haven't managed to get any into the page protectors yet. Maybe this year! LOL.

I like the depression block very much, so simple and yet striking. Your colors are very nice.

I did this same thing with my magazines when I was getting ready for my move. I was surprised at how many people were against the idea saying that they found their taste changed over time. Frankly, I have more patterns than I could ever make even accounting for taste changes and I could never find the ones I liked because I had so many magazines. Now I can easily flip through my collection of patterns and I have no regrets.

I love those depression blocks. I keep seeing them pop up on different blogs and have a feeling I'm going to be pulling scraps to play with them soon.

This is how I manage my magazines as well. I have several binders - one for baby quilts/small projects, one for lap/throw sized and one that has bed sized patterns. It works great for me. I haven't updated mine in several months, with Dad's last illness, death and work, I need to take a week off and do some stuff for ME.
