I have just finished the last block for Pumpkin Hill:
I still need to put the quilt together and quilt and bind it, of course. But, while I've been working on this quilt, I've been extremely unhappy with my applique. I love needleturn applique and always have. But...I have degenerative arthritis of the hands and I have finally gotten so fed up with my work that I am going to switch to prepared edge applique. This has been an idea I finally spent a lot of time thinking about. I love the Pumpkin Hill quilt, but am not happy with it. I'm hoping quilting it will hide a lot of bad parts. As I was finishing this block it finally occurred to me that the last few applique quilts I've done I've not been all that pleased with and it's because my fingers don't work as well as they used to and I can continue doing needleturn and making more quilts I'm unhappy with, or I can give up my stubbornness and make quilts that I can love because the pieces look so much more finished, smooth and crisp.
So, I'm switching back to Cottontail Cottage and will finish the pieces that I've already prepped for needleturn, but will prep the rest using prepared edge.
And that is a decision I feel good about, and now must learn to love prepared edge!
Until next time.....blessings.
