A Frustrating Day

So, today I was looking forward to spending hours in the basement sewing room working on some blocks to frame one of my applique quilts.  First, I needed to clean off the cutting table, since I needed to cut a lot of pieces. This is what it looked like when I went downstairs:

I have been cutting plaid fabrics that were donated by a friend whose Mom was a quilter and recently passed away.

Two bins jammed full, plus a few other bins of other fabrics.  I've been cutting the plaids for homeless quilts and adding one from each fabric to the design wall (pretty sure I'll have a few 60" x 80" quilts just from the plaids:

So, the table got cleared so I could cut the fabrics for 4 sunflower blocks.

Then I spent a few hours piecing a couple of sunflower blocks (the pattern calls for 4 of these blocks).  The blocks are 6" finished, so working with 1-1/2" pieces - which is not my idea of fun.  I messed up the first block and finally got it together.  Then started on the second block and had more problems.  Finally gave up and cleaned my sewing machine and table and even had problems getting the needle plate back into place properly!  That's when I gave up for the day.  Took a picture of the first block and noticed this:

Seriously decided I'd had enough -- I'll fix both the first and second blocks next time I'm in the basement!

Until next time....blessings.
