Charity in our own backyard

Yesterday our church group donated another 51 quilts for the homeless to the Rockford Rescue Mission:

I know there are groups that donate quilts and clothes, etc worldwide, but I'm more inclined to donate locally -- the need is great.
We have donated 456 quilts so far over the years to all local organizations.  We gave 50 kids quilts to a crisis nursery in Rockford called Maya's House a few years ago and I almost cried when the woman who accepted the quilts said she had just had a mother ask if they had any blankets because she didn't have one for her infant child.
Look around in your own communities and see what you can do to help.  School children are cold and hungry -- if you knit or crochet or sew, they need hats and mittens and scarves.  Every little bit helps.
Until next time.....blessings.
