A Good Day

Finally had a long enough day in the studio!

I finished the windmill top and pieced the backing with a label, too.

This quilt was easy, fast and fun to do.  I will be making this again.  It finishes at 64" x 80" which is about the right size for the homeless quilts -- we like them to be big enough to wrap around themselves.  Some of the homeless people stay outside all the time, sleep in doorways or have tent cities - and I live in southern WI/northern IL - it's cold.  I also pieced the backing out of quilt shop quality fabric.  I know a few people think I'm crazy for using good fabric, but I buy it on the sale racks at the quilt shops; I prefer to use nice fabric, it just feels better, I can take the price off my taxes as a donation, and I think if I was homeless, I'd appreciate having nice fabric in my quilt.

I will get this quilt on the machine in the next day or two and get it finished.  I have written down the sizes and amounts to cut for the pieces to make this quilt again -- and this time I will cut only what I need and simplify the work involved!

I also spent some time cleaning out the cubbies:

The quilts on top of the cubbies are 4 finished full size homeless quilts and 2 lap quilts that we make for nursing homes.
The cubby on top right has a few projects waiting to be finished, or started!  I'm in the process of pressing and folding and sorting the rest of the fabric I have stuffed in there.  The pool table is getting filled with fabric that will need to be put away soon.  I will probably put some of it back in the cubbies because I don't have room in my fabric cabinets! But, I'm looking forward to being able to pull fabrics easily to piece more quilts.  Having things just thrown in there stresses me out!

Until next time....blessings.
